Biography
Filmmaker NICK HARRIS began studying visual arts at the age of five where the ideals behind utilizing framing and layout to lead the eye soon fueled his passion for visual storytelling and ultimately creative writing. His discerning eye and affinity for comic irony, along with his personal wit have resulted in a creative vision that continues to catch audiences' attention.
Harris earned his Bachelor's Degree in Television, film and Media Studies from CSULA. Upon graduation, he purchased a camera, lights, and sound equipment in order to produce his own films. Harris very quickly began working steadily in Hollywood as a cinematographer, first building a resume of short films and eventually lighting and framing such talent as Richard Roundtree (Shaft, Seven) and Billy Dee Williams (Star Wars, Batman) in Robert Townsend's (The Hollywood Shuffle, The Five Heartbeats) 2009 TV series "Diary of a Single Mom"; Dan Akroyd (Ghostbusters, SNL) in a Ghostbusters retrospective; Randy and Jason Sklar (The Cheap Seats, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Matt Besser (The Upright Citizens Brigade) in web series "Back on Topps"; and Ray Parker Jr. (Academy nominated songwriter for Ghostbusters) and Sheldon Reynolds(Earth, Wind, and Fire) in Universal Music Group artist Brian Culbertson's "Live From the inside" studio/concert DVD.
Sunspot Pictures' short film Donut Shop Hero marked a first in the writing and directing collaboration with Rhoads, followed by a slate of commercials for major brands and products.
Behind it all, Harris strives to return filmmaking to it's roots. "There was a time when audiences were sold on the adventure of high concept, fantastical stories. Nowadays people are more cynical, to have adventure it must be grounded in reality. With our films we seek to combine the high concept imagination of these classic films with the down to earth realism found in modern films." Nick recently finished a feature film screenplay entitled “The Survivors of Orange Grove High,” which he co-wrote with Rhoads.
